<\/mark>The central theme of the Symposium is:
A Transdisciplinary Approach to Music Learning: Integrating Science, Art and Educational Technology<\/strong>
<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Symposium focuses on contemporary approaches to music learning and teaching and on connecting music pedagogy with other scientific, artistic and educational fields. The proposed thematic areas include:\n\u2013 transdisciplinarity in music education\n\u2013 connecting music, science and other artistic fields\n\u2013 contemporary methods of music learning and teaching\n\u2013 educational technology and digital content in music education\n\u2013 artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in music education\n\u2013 research into music education theory and practice\n\u2013 innovative, project-based and collaborative forms of work\n\u2013 the development of musical, creative and interdisciplinary competencies\n\u2013 examples of good practice at all levels of education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participation is possible both in person and online, and the working languages of the Symposium are Croatian and English. Authors may submit an oral presentation, workshop, poster presentation or panel. The programme is intended for researchers, teachers, preschool teachers, music educators, artists, students and other professionals interested in contemporary issues in music education.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

10 Years of the Symposium of Music Pedagogues<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n
The International Symposium of Music Pedagogues is the first symposium dedicated to music pedagogy in the Republic of Croatia. It was founded in 2009 on the initiative of Prof. Sabina Vidulin, PhD, at the then Department of Music of Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, today\u2019s Academy of Music in Pula.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Symposium was conceived as an international forum for meeting and exchanging contemporary theoretical knowledge, research findings, and ideas and experiences from music education practice. It brings together music educators of various profiles, researchers, teachers, and practitioners whose research, innovations, and professional activities contribute to the development of music education theory and the advancement of music teaching and learning.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Symposium programme includes keynote, research, and professional presentations, workshops, forum groups, interactive discussions, round tables, concerts, exhibitions, and presentations of books and other publications. This diversity of programme formats enables the integration of academic research, artistic practice, and direct educational work.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The symposia are held under the common title Music Pedagogy in the Light of Present and Future Changes, with each edition focusing on current issues, challenges, and directions of development in music education. Over the course of its previous editions, the Symposium has developed into a recognised international platform for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary reflection on music, education, and the arts. Glazbena pedagogija u svjetlu sada\u0161njih i budu\u0107ih promjena<\/strong>, pri \u010demu se svako izdanje usmjerava na aktualna pitanja, izazove i razvojne smjerove glazbenoga odgoja i obrazovanja. Tijekom dosada\u0161njih izdanja Simpozij se razvio u prepoznatljivu me\u0111unarodnu platformu za interdisciplinarno i multidisciplinarno promi\u0161ljanje glazbe, obrazovanja i umjetnosti.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each symposium is accompanied by a proceedings volume bearing the same title, and the published volumes are indexed in the international RILM and EBSCO databases. Nine symposia have been held to date, attended by numerous presenters and participants from Croatia, other European countries, and different parts of the world. The international recognition of the Symposium has been strengthened by the members of its scientific and programme committees, reviewers, and cooperation with international professional and academic associations.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. First International Symposium of Music Pedagogues, 2009<\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The First International Symposium of Music Pedagogues was held on 25 and 26 September 2009 in Pula, at the then Department of Music of Juraj Dobrila University of Pula.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of the Symposium was Music Teacher Education in the Light of Present and Future Changes, with particular emphasis on the Bologna Process, the national curriculum, the Croatian National Educational Standard, and other current issues in music teacher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Symposium marked the beginning of a series of international meetings and resulted in the publication of the first proceedings volume, which was also the first academic monograph issued by the Department of Music at the time. Presenters from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovenia participated, and the discussions focused on contemporary changes in music teacher education and the position of music within the education system.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Second International Symposium of Music Pedagogues, 2011<\/strong><\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The Second Symposium was held on 23 and 24 September 2011 in Pula.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of the Symposium was Music Teaching and Educational Technology \u2013 Possibilities and Limitations. The discussions focused on the potential application of digital technologies, e-learning, multimedia content, and interactive teaching methods in music education, from preschool to higher education. Glazbena nastava i nastavna tehnologija \u2013 mogu\u0107nosti i ograni\u010denja<\/strong>. U sredi\u0161tu rasprava bile su mogu\u0107nosti primjene digitalnih tehnologija, e-u\u010denja, multimedijskih sadr\u017eaja i interaktivnih nastavnih metoda u glazbenom odgoju i obrazovanju, od pred\u0161kolske do visoko\u0161kolske razine.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Presenters from Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Austria, Germany, Poland, and the United States participated in the Symposium. The programme concluded with a round table devoted to perspectives on the use of contemporary technology in music teaching.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Third International Symposium of Music Pedagogues, 2013<\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The Third Symposium was held from 18 to 20 April 2013 in Pula.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of the Symposium was An Interdisciplinary Approach to Music \u2013 Research, Practice and Education. The papers were organised into five thematic sections addressing the relationship between music and other academic and artistic fields, primary and secondary education, music schools, and music therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Experts from eleven countries participated, including Italy, Austria, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, and T\u00fcrkiye. In addition to the academic and professional programme, concerts and presentations of professional and academic publications were held.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Fourth International Symposium of Music Pedagogues, 2015<\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The Fourth Symposium was held from 15 to 17 May 2015 in Split, in cooperation between the Academy of Music in Pula and the Arts Academy of the University of Split.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of the Symposium was The Synthesis of Traditional and Contemporary Approaches in Music Education in the 21st Century. The thematic framework was expanded to include general music education, formal and specialised music education, and the relationship between traditional and contemporary pedagogical approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Researchers, teachers, and practitioners from Croatia, Poland, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro participated. The proceedings volume was published by the Arts Academy of the University of Split.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Fifth International Symposium of Music Pedagogues, 2017<\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The Fifth Symposium was held from 18 to 20 May 2017 in Pula and marked the first major anniversary of this international event. By that time, a total of 189 active participants from Croatia and abroad had taken part in the symposia.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of the Symposium was The Future of Music Teaching \u2013 Discourses on Pedagogy in the Art of Music. The programme included discussions on the future of music teaching, contemporary pedagogical approaches, and the relationship between musical art, education, and research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the first time, focus groups and mentoring activities for young researchers were organised. Distinguished experts from thirteen countries participated, including Austria, Italy, Germany, Poland, and Slovenia. The proceedings volume was published under the editorship of Prof. Sabina Vidulin, PhD.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Sixth International Symposium of Music Pedagogues, 2019<\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The Sixth Symposium was held from 11 to 13 April 2019 in Osijek, at the Faculty of Education of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of the Symposium was Music in School \u2013 Current State and Perspectives. The programme included academic and professional presentations, workshops, concerts, and discussions on the curriculum, project-based learning, extracurricular activities, and contemporary challenges in music teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Experts from sixteen countries participated, including Austria, France, Italy, Hungary, Mexico, Slovenia, and the United States. A proceedings volume containing 29 papers was published, while an additional six papers appeared in the journal Life and School. \u017divot i \u0161kola<\/em>.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Seventh International Symposium of Music Pedagogues, 2021<\/strong><\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The Seventh Symposium was held online from 13 to 15 May 2021 due to the pandemic.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of the Symposium was Music Pedagogy in the Light of Present and Future Changes \u2013 Multidisciplinary Meeting Points. A total of 292 participants from 22 countries attended, while 52 presenters delivered 38 presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main keynote speaker was Stefan Gies from the European Association of Conservatoires (AEC), and invited speakers from several countries also took part in the programme. In addition to presentations, the programme included concerts, book presentations, and a concluding discussion. A proceedings volume containing 30 papers was published, 28 of which were research papers. Partner institutions and organisations included the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS), the European Association of Conservatoires (AEC), and the Regional Network Psychology and Music.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Eighth International Symposium of Music Pedagogues, 2023<\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The Eighth Symposium was held from 4 to 6 May 2023 at the Academy of Music in Pula.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of the Symposium was Music and Well-Being in Education and the Arts. The programme included eleven subthemes, covering curriculum-related issues, the well-being of students and music educators, therapeutic pedagogy, social engagement, and the application of music in various educational and artistic contexts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Participation was possible both in person and online, and more than half of the presenters came from abroad. The proceedings volume was published before the Symposium and indexed in the RILM and EBSCO databases. In addition to the academic and professional programme, concerts and accompanying social events were organised.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Ninth International Symposium of Music Pedagogues, 2025<\/mark><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
The Ninth Symposium was held from 22 to 24 May 2025 at the University of Slavonski Brod.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of the Symposium was In the Light of Present and Future Changes \u2013 Formal, Non-Formal and Informal Music Education: Research and Practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Symposium was organised under the leadership of Assist. Prof. Zrinka \u0160imunovi\u0107, PhD, in cooperation with co-organisers including the Education and Teacher Training Agency, the Slavonski Brod Music School, and the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme included nine thematic sections, workshops, keynote lectures, poster presentations, and concerts, including a performance by the Slavonski Brod Accordion Orchestra. Experts from Croatia and abroad participated, including presenters from Hungary, Spain, and Ireland. A book of abstracts and accompanying reports on the Symposium were published.<\/mark><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
